Dell has unveiled its first set of Demsey and Woodcrest (a.k.a. Intel Xeon 5000 and 5100)-powered servers, with the Dell PowerEdge 1950 and 2950 being the rack-mounted portion of the set.

The PowerEdge 1950 is a 1U rack-mounted server, while the 2950 is a 2U. Both servers can support up to 32GB of DDR2 RAM via 8 sockets. On the HDD aspect, we’re looking at up to 600GB of internal hard disk space on the 1950 (via 2 x SAS HDDs), and up to 1.8TB for the 2950 (via 6 x SAS HDDs).

As usual, the servers will come with Dell OpenManage and your choice of operating system, from Windows Server 2003 to Red Hat and SuSe Linux.

Both servers are available now, but only with Xeon 5000 processors. If you want Woodcrest-powered servers, you’ll have to wait a month.

[...] Dell’s ninth generation servers, e.g. Dell PowerEdge 1950 and 2950, were officially announced around a month back. But at that time, only Demsey (a.k.a. Xeon 5000)-powered servers were available, with a “come again later” notice pasted for those looking for the highly anticipated top-of-the-line Xeon 5100 servers. [...]
