Dell XPS M1210: Dual Core Ultraportable
With the launch of two “heavyweight” Core Duo products, the Dell XPS M2010 and XPS 700, it was inevitable that Dell would announce a Core Duo ultraportable as well. And that ultraportable comes in the form of the Dell XPS M1210, a 4.37-pounder that will feature a 12.1″ widescreen display and magnesium alloy frame.
On both its starting weight and design, I’d say it fails to match the upcoming Acer Ferrari 1000 - also a 12.1″ ultraportable, but with a starting weight of around 3.7 pounds.
But given Dell’s flexibility in specs customization and the possibility of slotting in a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 graphics card into the M1210, Dell’s ultraportable offering could very well try to win the market through sheer brawn.
We still have little idea how much the Ferrari 1000 will cost, but the XPS M1210’s starting price of US$1,300 sounds rather respectable - though you won’t be getting a dedicated video card or Dell’s Communications Package (1.3 Megapixel webcam, Skype, video chat software, noise-isolation earbuds and built-in mobile broadband) unless you are willing to fork out at least US$513 more.
